Dr. Tomitaro Makino is a world-famous botanist who lived in the Meiji, Taisho, and Showa eras and is known as the father of Japanese botany.During his lifetime, he gave scientific names to more than 1,500 types of plants, collected 400,000 plant specimens for research, and left behind a large number of detailed botanical drawings called the "Makino style."
